There is a new camera chip inside the Vivo X21 smartphone . It uses a new image processing technology, dubbed “LITTLE IMAGE”, which promises to improve image quality. The company promises to have noticeably better-looking images with stunning details and more natural colors, comparable to the new iPhone X. That’s what the marketing material promises, anyway.
Chinese smartphone maker vivo has introduced its new image processing chip, the V1, which it says is 30 percent more powerful than its previous generation. The V1 is a ‘super-pixel’ image processor, meaning it’s dedicated to only dealing with megapixel camera images, and may eventually replace the Snapdragon 430 or Exynos 7885 image processing system in vivo has used in the past. The V1 will be used in vivo’s upcoming vivo X series and vivo X21 and X23. vivo did not discuss how this image processing chip will affect its smartphone models.
vivo had a press conference last week in Shenzhen, China, to introduce its new self-designed Imaging Chip V1. vivo showcased the Imaging Chip V1 as well as its four long-term strategy tracks during the presentation.
The vivo Imaging Chip V1 is the company’s original product.
The V1 is a completely customized integrated circuit chip for image and video applications with cutting-edge visual quality, according to vivo. The Imaging Chip V1 may better satisfy user requirements by optimizing smartphone application situations such as viewfinder look and video recording, in line with vivo’s imaging system architecture.
For the past 24 months, almost 300 vivo R&D employees and imaging lab experts have been working on the Imaging Chip V1. Vivo’s future chip-level image processing (IP) approach will primarily focus on four strategic tracks: image system, operating system, industrial design, and performance.
According to Hu Baishan, vivo’s Executive Vice President and COO, Vivo will only consider building chips with partners if there is a shortage of available capabilities on the market that are suited for vivo’s product and technological requirements, as well as a significant demand for fully tailored chips to support these long-term strategic objectives.
Without participating in chip production, Vivo will strategically concentrate its efforts on reproducing recognized market requirements via IP Design and building critical unique image processing algorithms.
The imaging system is one of vivo’s long-term strategic tracks. Vivo has been actively investing in this area for over five years, and has pioneered a number of industry-first technologies, such as Gimbal Stabilization and Selfie Spotlight. vivo and ZEISS established a long-term strategic collaboration in mobile imaging technology in December 2020.
vivo and ZEISS have a two-dimensional partnership, the first of which is product R&D. For the first time in the vivo X60 series, the results of collaborative R&D and the coupling of ZEISS mobile photography technologies with vivo’s top smartphone technology, algorithms, and manufacturing capabilities – such as ZEISS Biotar Portrait Style – are available.
The second component is a collaborative effort to shape the future via mobile imagery, with the aim of accelerating the development of next-generation professional photography and videography technologies.
Vivo will concentrate on product planning, technical planning, and technical pre-research as part of a three-pronged approach based on customer insights to strike a balance between goods and technology.
Customer needs, industry changes, and user situations will all be addressed by the vivo Central Research Institute.
vivo’s 10-to-20-year goal is to develop outstanding products with a design-driven value proposition, bridging the gap between people and the digital world by offering consumers a more comfortable mobile and digital experience.
Vivo will continue to pursue aggressive development methods in order to create a world-class organization that is healthier and lasts longer.
