Are you ready to play a new game as well as an old one? Then give us a chance to fill you in! First, let’s look at what’s new: It’s called Digimon Super Rumble, and it’s a Digimon-themed MMO currently under development. According to a Digimon series fan community, the game is being developed in Unreal Engine 4 and is based on the animated series that first broadcast in the United States, but with fresh characters and storylines.
The game’s video footage seems to show a turn-based combat system, as well as free exploration of the game’s environment and the potential for companion monsters to Digivolve into greater forms. The game went through a brief limited beta test in South Korea in June, according to the game’s official website, with the most current message thanking players for filling out feedback questionnaires and promising that the input will be utilized to improve the game. There is presently no release date or word on whether the game will be released globally, but official responses to the preview video’s remarks are being given in various languages, suggesting that a worldwide release may be planned later.
MoveGames is working on Digimon Super Rumble, the same company that created previous multiplayer Digimon games including the MMO Digimon Battle, which closed in 2013, and the MMO Digimon Masters Online, which launched in 2016 and is still receiving updates to this day. Of course, whether or not that changes is debatable and completely depends on whether or not Rumble gets released outside of South Korea. Digimon has been a popular franchise in Japan for years, with a wide range of merchandise, toys, and video games, but the Western market has been slow to embrace it. Last year when Bandai decided to bring Digimon to the West in a new MMO called Digimon Masters Online, a lot of people in the West gave it a try.
