The agent for Allen Robinson, the Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver who was traded to the Chicago Bears on Thursday, blasted a story published by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel saying that Robinson had been released.

Allen Robinson’s future with the Chicago Bears is still a bit of an enigma. Robinson will finish the season on the franchise tag after Chicago missed the July 15 deadline to sign him to a multi-year contract, and it’s uncertain if the club will be able to keep him when he becomes a free agency next season.
Adrian Amos, a former Bear and current Packers starting safety, chimed in on the issue through Twitter, asking, “What more does he have to prove?” When a fan responded to Amos three years ago, claiming Robinson might have “gotten a better contract with Green Bay,” Robinson’s agent, Brandon Parker, told the fan how much their two pennies were truly worth, labeling it a “false story:”

Green Bay was reportedly interested in Robinson in 2018.
Robinson signed a three-year, $42 million deal with the Bears in 2018, after undergoing ACL reconstruction surgery in Jacksonville the year before. The Packers were reportedly one of the clubs interested in signing him at the time, with a few sources claiming that it came down to Green Bay or Chicago.
“The New York Jets and the Cleveland Browns, two clubs with a lot of salary room, showed early interest in him. Robinson’s talents were also sought by the Green Bay Packers in a bidding war. It came down to the Packers versus the Bears in the end. Robinson selected Chicago, according to Mike Kaye of First Coast News in March of 2018.
Robinson, a Detroit native, told Kaye at the time that he picked Chicago partly because it is near to his hometown… Green Bay, on the other hand, is in a similar situation.
Robinson told First Coast News soon after signing with the Bears, “With all else being equal, Chicago was a city I had my sights on from a football perspective.” “It’s a location with a lot of advantages in terms of proximity to home. The proximity to home was a little influence, but it was nevertheless a factor.”
It’s difficult to envision a young wideout refusing to play beside Aaron Rodgers, so the Packers most likely had an offer that was just too low. Regardless, Parker’s reaction indicates that the Packers didn’t make Robinson a very attractive offer.

So, what drew Robinson to Chicago?
Robinson may have been attracted by Chicago’s then-new coaching-QB combination. Matt Nagy was in his first season as the team’s head coach, while Mitch Trubisky was in his second. Three years ago, there was a lot of optimism and excitement around them both.
A-Rob also praised Nagy’s teaching approach at the time. Nagy, who had just been hired a few months before, went 12-4 and won Coach of the Year that season, so Robinson’s time with the Bears got off to a good start.
“Chicago was certainly a club I had my eye on going into the free agency process, from the perspective that they had just hired Coach [Matt] Nagy,” Robinson stated in 2018. “Coach Nagy had a huge role in it… His attack and system are two of my favorites.”
As a result, if the Packers gave Robinson anything at all, it’s probable that they wouldn’t give him what he thinks he’s worth — or at least anything close to the $42 million Chicago paid him. Green Bay’s reported interest was never verified or refuted. In any case, Parker had some telling comments for those who said his client should have gone with Trubisky over Rodgers, so we should definitely pay attention.
